A WORD FROM THE MANAGEMENT!
Current mood: cantankerous
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

We understand that Moykal has been spinning you some far fetched stories about putting out quadrupal career encompassing CD’s, re-recording past failures and putting out a new CD of unproven songs. We at Boysterous Sounds have become increasingly concerned by such ideas and to put it quite frankly we have had to put such notions to bed!

The compilation CD will not be used as an excuse to fulfill the contract. That "interesting" idea has been put on the backburner of a cooker that’s been dumped in an alley in Mitcham waiting for the council to collect and dispose of appropriately. As for trying to get us to pay for a re-recording of Fluxhead’s first CD?! We dragged the two culprits (who make Kate Bush look prolific!) into a North London basement, gave them a bit of a slap and locked them in there until they actually record the "new" CD (which we paid an advance for some time in the last century). They will be let out once we get something tangeable, rather than sitting around making cups of tea and having a laugh about past successes which do not exist outside the parameters of their wasted brains!

One decent thing Moykal has managed to do is to hoodwink three very talented musicians to help him produce something almost tuneful under the Boycey banner. However, he decided (against sensible advice) that he was going to leave off proven hit tracks as he didn’t want to "sell out" to the "fans". Well we’re sure the two people he’s talking about will forgive our insistance that "Crazy Paving", "Shrinking" and "Happy Song" will be included on the upcoming "Life Leaks a Hole" CD. And as for the idea of starting the CD with an instrumental, hiring a choir and string section(?!).

So sanity has been restored and maybe we’ll be able to prevent Boysterous Sounds going bust now....

BOYSTEROUS SOUNDS STORY 1986-2007 (In Brief!)

Boysterous Sounds is me, Moykal O'Bui:- songwriter, singer, musician and performer (in order of appropriateness of claim to such notions). I started out in Worcester Park recording on a condensor microphone on a cassette recorder with what I was able to make up on the piano after quiting lessons a few years previously. Then after starting guitar lessons, I began incorporating this into what I was writing and progressed onto stereo recording via broken headphones plugged into the back of the cassette recorder. To cut a long story short, borrowed guitars became bought guitar. Student guitars became acoustic and electric guitars. Stand-up piano became electric keyboard. Brocken headphones got swapped for boogie boxes which progressed onto 4 track recorders then 8 track audio recorders and eventually 8 track digital recorders. I managed to find some people who would be prepared to listen to my music then eventually some who would play on my songs. I began venturing out of my bedroom to play to a handful of people in the front room then went onto other people's front rooms.

Eventually I found a music venue in the back room of a pub which was to become a special room for me and many artists to play their songs to a wider audience whilst still feeling like an intimate venue. The Half Way Crazy Club proved to be a great meeting place for friends and musicians. After producing truck loads of tapes (many of which ended up at the local charity shop!), I started recording 11 songs with many of the wonderful people I had met. These songs became my first CD "Suspend Your Disbelief". An acoustic band was formed with a few of the musicians I had recorded with and met through the HWC Club. The Boycycles were born and became a serious touring outfit by my standards (playing live more than once a month!). Line-up changes, lost recordings and my head expanded so much that eventually it exploded shattering the band in the process! By now the HWC was no more and my stuttering live career had come belching to an unglamorous end. However, on the positive side I had managed to resurrect the Fluxhead duo with my wayward partner and threw the final pun of my name with the new monikor Boycey.

I celebrated my 20 years of making music in 2006 with a compilation of outtakes "A Catalogue Of Errors Parts 1&2" and by asking my musical friends (those that had survived my turbulant travels!) to have a go at the songs on "Suspend Your Disbelief". Low and behold, 12 people came back and said "yes". Another dozen kept a diplomatic silence but we won't dwell on that! "S.Y.D. Revisited" heralds 21 years of Boysterous Sounds and is set to culminate in a live showcase by the artists involved. Keep an eye on Boycemail for more details...
